Mesh International, a global event and marketing company, came to us to create graffiti artwork and entertainment for a yearly event in Central Park: UAE Healthy Kidney 10K run hosted by the United Arab Emirates and NYRR. We thought an added element to live-painting a mural would be to make the canvas in plexiglass so attendees could see the progress from all angles – front, back, and sides. Our artist filled in an outlined design with spray paint during the event, and as runners finished the race they stopped to take photos in front of the mural. It served as a backdrop for showing off their medals!

The creative direction was to design a portrait of the Sheik with the quote “My Wealth is The Happiness of My People” along with an Abu Dhabi sponsor logo on top of a colorful abstract background.  We painted the outlines on the front of the canvas prior to the event since we only had about 3 hours to color the artwork in live in reverse.  After the event, we constructed a custom crate and stand for the plexiglass so that it could be shipped over to the United Arab Emirates.

For this project, instead of painting a traditional canvas, we wanted to create an activation that was unique and memorable to the participants.  We came up with the concept of fabricating a large transparent 8’ ft x 12’ ft. canvas/wall using multiple sheets of plexiglass. Utilizing this see-through canvas, we were able to have the artist color in backwards from behind the glass giving viewers a very unique viewpoint of the artwork being created live!  We also did a similar live graffiti event on plexiglass in the past in Los Angeles. This idea came from our graffiti roots of having to paint the windows of abandoned buildings backwards with the outline first and working in reverse from the way artwork is traditionally painted.

For the 20th anniversary of American Society of Concrete Contractors’ Decorative Concrete Council, they wanted our team to add a live graffiti entertainment element to their event, tying into the theme “Everything But Gray”. Our artist took inspiration from ASCC’s portfolio of decorative concrete architecture to create a fictional world showing more traditional forms of gray concrete transforming into the more engaging and enticing world of vibrant and colorful decorative concrete. With finishing touches of the artwork completed live onsite, the final piece was auctioned off to guests at the end of the event.

Painted across five canvases, RIPCO’s logo was transformed into one large canvas mural. Each letter contains details representing each of the five NYC boroughs. The final painting resulted in a modern twist to the vintage postcard style that has become very popular in recent years.  Brooklyn Bridge, Biggie, Apollo Theater, Queens World’s Fair, The Beastie Boys….the devil is in the detail!

Barcelona based fragrance and fashion company, PUIG, came to us to help celebrate the graduating class of their new employees during a group trip to NY. In order to create a team-building activity while nodding to NY culture, we customized a graffiti workshop for the group of 36 to color and fill in an original piece of artwork designed around the companies values. Workshop attendees learned the background to graffiti and tips and tricks to using the medium of spray paint. Our artist outlined the artwork in black prior to the event for guests to fill in colors of spray paint like a giant paint-by-numbers, also having guests write in personal comments and feelings around their experiences with PUIG. Workshop attendees readily rolled up their sleeves to play with spray paint and tap into their creativity for an experience they’ll never forget. Images of the group and their time together were printed on posters as a takeaway.

We’ve noticed a trend this year and Adidas isn’t the only one interested in creating interactive live murals allowing participants to assist the artist and fill in portions of commissioned art pieces.

Latitude, a brand experience design agency came to us to help with a nationwide Adidas launch. The “adicolor” adidas launch transcends cultures and eras to redefine itself in new contexts – always taking color seriously, and taking itself less seriously. We helped curate the right graffiti artists for the gig in NY, LA and Chicago to design a black and white illustration showcasing the unique landscapes of their city that only a true local would know. Artist’s designs were then printed onto a large canvas featured at Finish Line locations and to be later colored in by store visitors over the duration of two weeks.

We created an interactive graffiti mural for Andy Grammer‘s new single Give Love featuring Lunchmoney Lewis. The canvas was placed at the Arroyo Seco Festival in Pasadena, CA when Andy was performing. There were plenty of photo ops of festival goers interacting with the piece. The artwork featured a megaphone projecting “love” in a colorful burst of imagery. Check out images of the artwork and people interacting with the piece below:

We partnered with Sofia Crokos Events to create a custom canvas for a wedding in East Hampton, NY for a private client.  The bride & groom were big fans of graffiti & street art so we pieced together a lot of suggested imagery along with the wedding hashtag into this large 8×12 piece.  It was also used as a backdrop to the DJ booth and an accent piece on the dance floor!  Check out a photo of the completed piece below:

We partnered with Mamba again to create some live artwork for the Electric Forest Music Festival in Michigan.  We placed 6 round canvases onto the wall prior to painting the mural.  Once the mural was completed, we removed the 6 individual canvases for giveaways.  The wall was repainted 3 times over the course of the festival. Check out photos of the completed pieces below:
